The Amazing One

"It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, the ability to triumph begins with you," said Winfrey (Famous quotations). Oprah Winfrey is a famous talk show host. She is a kind and knowledgeable person. Winfrey's show's are about helping people with their deepest fears and problems, while at the same time making people’s dreams come alive. Winfrey has inspired many American’s as well as the people all around the world. Oprah has changed the lives of many people from her talk shows.

Oprah's Background

Oprah was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi on January 25, 1954. She is the daughter of Vermon Winfrey and Vernita Lee. Oprah's farther, Vermon, was in the Army. Vernita was looking for work and left Oprah in the hands of her mother-in-law Hattie Mea Lee because she was unfit to take care of her according to (Early Life of Oprah). Oprah spent the first six years of her life with her grandmother. When Oprah was six and a half years old she went back to live with her mother, where she was abused and sexually assaulted. She was sworn to secrecy not to tell anyone. The police found out, and Oprah was sent to live with her farther at age seven. Oprah's farther was very strict, he forced her to read a book and do a book report on it every week. Doing a book report every week did help Oprah. Oprah's first day of school, in first grade, the teachers realized that Oprah was gifted and did not belong in the class (Early Life). She was advanced to the third grade.

Oprah's Fame

Oprah is famous because of her lifelong dedication to her dreams. In fact at the age of eight the person who inspired Oprah the most was her fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Benton. Oprah says "Mrs. Benton was the first person that I really could see believed in me, she would tell me that I was just the smartest little girl she'd ever seen. I felt shiny in her eyes. It is why, whenever I see a little girl, I always stop to try and acknowledge her. I always try to have a shiny moment.” Winfrey explains (People Magazine). At the age of seventeen, Oprah was hired by WVOL radio as a reporter. Two years later she signed a contract with WTVF-TV as a reporter. She attended Tennessee State University, where she majored in Speech Communications and Performing Arts. In 1986 Oprah started the Oprah Winfrey Show and now the show brings in twenty million views a day. Sadly the Oprah Winfrey Show is ending in 2011.

Oprah Achievement's

In 1991 Oprah testified before a U.S. Senate on behalf of a National Child Protection Act, which is a national database of convicted child abusers. President Clinton signed the "Oprah Bill" into law in 1993 (Academy of Achievement). Oprah was named one of the 100 most influential People of the 20th Century by (Time magazine). In 1998 Oprah received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Oprah has started the Angel Network, which is a network that gives $100,000 to people who are using their lives to improve the lives of others. Oprah was voted by (Forbes magazine) one the first African-American woman to become a billionaire. Another one of Oprah accomplishments is that she owns a school for underprivileged girls of Africa.

All an all despite Oprah unfortunate mishappenings, she has live her life to the fullest. Finally Oprah has grown up to be a wonderful and smart woman. Winfrey talk shows have helped people all around the world.
